About this year’s Winthrop Roundtable
The College of Charleston Friends of the Library and the John Edwin Mroz Global Leadership Institute are excited to announce Anne Applebaum as the 2027 Winthrop Roundtable honored guest.

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, journalist and The Atlantic essayist Anne Applebaum will draw upon her years of international reporting and historical research to share her perspective on the far-reaching implications of today’s volatile world events. She will be joined in conversation with Max Kovalov, Bennett Director of the Mroz Global Leadership Institute.

Applebaum is a Senior Fellow at the Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University and former Philippe Roman Chair in History and International Affairs at the London School of Economics. She attended Yale University and was a Marshall Scholar at the London School of Economics and St. Antony’s College, Oxford.

Established in 1989 as an intimate gathering hosted by philanthropists John and Libby Winthrop, the Roundtable has grown into one of the College’s signature spring traditions. Each year, the Roundtable brings together a dedicated circle of Lowcountry patrons, scholars and civic leaders to engage with the challenges facing our region and the world.

As one of the College Libraries’ most generous and dedicated patrons, you are an integral part of the community that makes this gathering possible. We would be delighted to welcome you and your guest on January 29, 2027, for this invite-only occasion.
